ODESSA – In 2019, Nick Persell got his first win as Richmond’s varsity football coach. In 2021, Persell got his first win as Richmond’s varsity baseball coach.
RICHMOND – Nick Persell finds inspiration in coaches who mentored him as he guides Richmond’s baseball program. Doubling as Richmond’s varsity football coach, Persell became head coach in 2020.
RICHMOND – This season is like a rebirth for Richmond’s track and field program, varsity boys and girls coach Mike Long said. In 2020, the Spartans “were really primed and ready to go” when they started training in March, Long recalled.
RICHMOND – The Spartans have an experienced group this varsity boys golf season. Returners will fill Richmond’s five varsity spots, coach Murray Dennis said March 16 at Shirkey Golf Course in Richmond.
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Orrick’s golf program has a new home. After a lengthy relationship with Shirkey Golf Club in Richmond, the Bearcats are playing their home matches at Excelsior Springs Golf Course, where coach Mitch Comstock has been a member “for quite a while,” he said.
ORRICK – A last-minute coaching change gave Paul Giffin another chance to engage with a sport he loves. Eric Fairchild was slated to coach Orrick varsity track and field.
ORRICK – The Bearcats’ varsity softball success this spring will depend partly on their ability to adapt, sophomore infielder Janie Kilgore said. For starters, the Bearcats must adapt to Zach McGill as their new skipper.
HARDIN – Varsity coach Kirk Thacker sees championship potential in his Hardin-Central boys team. The roster includes former members of the junior high program that won two straight Carroll-Livingston Activities Association boys championships, Thacker said March 1.
