Body JEFFERSON CITY – The Spartans gave Richmond varsity track and field coach Mike Long a few high notes for ending his career. One of those notes was a state boys 800-meter relay title.

Body ODESSA – A long-held school record at Richmond High has fallen. On May 22, the Richmond boys 400-meter relay team won at the Class 3 Sectional 4 competition at Odessa in 43.58 seconds, breaking the school record of 43.75, set in 1993 and tied in 1995.

Body RICHMOND – The Richmond High School Athletic Hall of Fame ceremony is back. After a year’s delay because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Richmond Spartan Alumni Association will induct the newest members June 5.

Body ODESSA – Sophia Farnan could finish her high school track and field career with a state medal.

Body NIXA – Dylan Comstock finished his high school boys golf career as a state champion.

Body BOLIVAR – An individual state title narrowly eluded Timmy Hamilton. Hamilton, who graduated Sunday from Richmond, placed seventh by shooting a 158 at the Class 2 state boys golf tournament, held Monday and Tuesday at Silo Ridge Golf and Country Club in Bolivar.

Body HIGGINSVILLE – Four area athletes are headed to the Class 1 state track and field meet. Orrick and Hardin-Central each qualified two athletes for the competition, slated for Saturday at Adkins Stadium in Jefferson City.

Body RICHMOND – Timmy Hamilton will play his final rounds of high school boys golf at a course that holds special meaning for him.

Body CLEVELAND – The Bulldogs have found “a shiny diamond” in junior sprinter Korbin Pugh, Hardin-Central varsity track coach Kirk Thacker said. Pugh’s late-season performances in the boys 100-meter dash prompted Thacker to give him that designation.

Body CLEVELAND – May 8 was hardly a great javelin-throwing day, Orrick junior Blake Buchanan said after competing in the boys javelin that afternoon at the Class 1 District 7 track and field meet on the Midway School District campus.
