Spartans runners-up at Hwy. 13 Throwdown
HIGGINSVILLE – On Jan. 28, Aidan Ivison might have gotten a sneak peek at a postseason opponent in boys wrestling.
That day, the Richmond junior faced Centralia’s Ian Tuggle for the 190-pound title at the Highway 13 Throwdown, hosted by Lafayette County of Higginsville. Ivison won by pin in 3 minutes, 17 seconds.
“He is … (an) opponent that I will possibly see in districts,” Ivison said. “So it was a good thing that I went out there to get the win.”
Whether or not Ivison sees Tuggle in Class 1 District 3 competition Feb. 17-18, also hosted by Lafayette County, “depends on … brackets and how everyone does that day,” Richmond coach Cody Hogan said.
“But there’s a good chance that he will,” Hogan added.
Ivison helped the Spartans place second in the team standings with 266 points – 163 points behind tournament champion Centralia and 104 points ahead of third-place Lafayette County. He was among 11 Richmond wrestlers to place in the top six.
