Jacob Lansdale

Jacob Eli Lansdale, 16, of Richmond passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at Ray County Hospital and Healthcare in Richmond. Jacob was born Nov. 26, 2009, in Cameron, the son of Adam and Brianna (Shaffer) Carder. Survivors include his father, Adam Carder of Liberty; mother, Brianna Shaffer-Carder (Michael Groff) of Richmond; two brothers, Draven White (Hannah Kennedy) of Excelsior Springs and Rylan Short of Richmond; and sister, Karleigh Shaffer of Richmond.

Other survivors include his niece, Millie White; paternal grandmother, Carol (Larry) Elam of Kansas City; maternal grandmother, Kimberly Moore of Parkville; maternal grandfather, Sam (Debra) Shaffer of Excelsior Springs; maternal great-grandmother, Ann Highfill; and his canine companion, Zeus Lansdale.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Terry Carder; and maternal great-grandfather, Terry Highfill.

Jacob’s life was far too short, but in the 16 years he was here, he packed more love, kindness and living into those years than many do in a lifetime.

He was a student at Richmond High School and was loved by just about everyone who had the chance to get to know him. He had a heart bigger than himself and was always willing to help someone in need. If you needed something, Jacob was the first one there, and many would tell you he would have given you the shirt off his back without a second thought.

Jacob loved life and made the most of every day. He enjoyed playing basketball, listening to music, staying active, and spending time with his family and friends, who meant everything to him.

His dog Zeus held a special place in his heart and was always close by.

Jacob had a way of making people smile; and his kind heart, caring spirit and genuine love for others are what those who knew him will remember most. Even though his family wishes they had been given more time with him, they are thankful for every memory, laugh and moment they were blessed to share with him.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Richmond Parks and Recreation Department for the Cevie Due Park (skate park). They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home; 507 E. Main St.-P.O. Box 190; Richmond, MO 64085.

A memorial visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Inurnment will be held a later date.
