Charles Morrison
Charles (Charlie) Frederick Morrison, 81, of Richmond passed away Sunday, Dec. 7, 2025, at North Kansas City Hospital in North Kansas City. Charles Morrison was born April 10, 1944, in Aliceville, Ala., the son of Grace (Manning) Morrison and Lewis Morrison, a Presbyterian minister. He is survived by three nieces, Kathy (Mark) Juedeman of Helena, Mont.; Jackie Barr of Rockdale, Texas; and Charlotte Engwer of Helena; and their children. He also is survived by many cousins who stayed in touch and friends from his early years in Alabama, particularly Ron and Judy Fleming, who have long been family friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Louise Kennon.
He will be missed by family and friends. We are grateful for the enduring support that he got from his faithful set of church friends, and from Aaron and Angela Manning, and Amy Burnine.
Charlie graduated from high school in Prattville, Ala. He graduated from King College (now King University) in Bristol, Tenn., with a B.A. in mathematics, attending as a King Scholar; and then the University of Tennessee with a B.S. in engineering.
After graduating college, Charlie held an engineering role at National Cash Register (NCR) in Dayton, Ohio, testing components. While in Dayton, Charlie also held a job as an apartment building manager. Charlie moved back to Richmond and was caregiver for his mom Grace in her later years.
Charlie also worked for a time at the Farris Theatre in Richmond.
Charlie had a lifelong love of music. He attributed this to his dad Lewis, who also had loved music. He joined the marching band in high school, playing the French horn. At King College, he performed with the symphonic choir and the chapel choir, and he participated in barbershop groups. While a young professional in Dayton, Charlie was active in the regional barbershop chorus and “Xenia Hospitality chorus,” including holding several officer’s roles. While at NCR, Charlie was active in a local bell ringer quartet.
After his move back to Richmond, Charlie was active in the Richmond Presbyterian church choir. One summer, Charlie taught his three young nieces how to read music and how to sing in parts, passing that love of music on to the next generation.
Charlie embraced his faith and church life, including church participation, as he was growing up. He attended Westminster Presbyterian Church while living in Dayton as a young professional.
When he returned to Richmond, he took an active role in church life at the United Christian Presbyterian Church in Richmond. He participated as an elder, attended regional meetings to represent the church, helped with summer camps, decorated the church for holy days and found great joy in the church community.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the United Christian Presbyterian Church, 501 N. Spartan Drive, Richmond, MO 64085; or The Farris Theatre, c/o Friends of the Farris Inc., 301 W. Main St., Richmond, MO 64085 (website: www.farristheatre.com).
Cremation has taken place, and memorial services will be held at a later date, with details to follow.
