Lois Marie Ruckdeschell, 83, of Richmond passed away Thursday, June 26, 2025, at NorthCare Hospice House in North Kansas City.

Lois was born March 18, 1942, in Wellington, the daughter of Edwin and Susan Francis (Vance) Huenefeld.

She was first united in marriage to Larry Ray Vandiver of Richmond. He preceded her in death on Feb. 8, 1993.

She later married Thomas Ray Ruckdeschell of Richmond on June 27, 1997. He survives of the home.

Additional survivors include four children and their spouses: Todd Vandiver and wife Sonya, Troy Vandiver and wife Ellen, Jim Ruckdeschell and wife Rena, and Rhonda Ruckdeschell and husband, Kenny Cline; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-greatgrandchild; and a sister, Carol Hough.

In addition to her first husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; son, Tony Vandiver; and daughter, Jennifer Vandiver.

Affectionately known by her family as “Gran,” Lois was employed by various businesses around the Richmond area throughout her life, including Ferguson Manufacturing, Boatman’s Bank and the PWSD No. 2 of Ray County. Always staying busy, she never sat still.

She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family but didn’t want anyone in “her kitchen.” The grandkids rarely left her house without an armload of homemade zucchini bread loaves.

Not only was she a great cook, but she loved to sing. She performed for worship services, funerals, plays and even sang briefly with a local rock band.

After retirement, Lois and Tom spent many hours on their Harley trike and eventually traded it in for a sideby- side. They enjoyed time in the RV at the Cloud 9 Ranch and riding the dirt trails. She loved adventure and still drove her Jeep around Richmond when she had the chance.

Lois will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was vibrant and caring for everyone around her until the end.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to NorthCare Hospice House. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home; 507 E. Main St.-P.O. Box 190; Richmond, MO 64085.

Graveside services were scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 2, in Richmond Memory Gardens. Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond was in charge of the services.
