Although Ray County Commissioners were advised against the purchase of new property — for supposed placement of a mental health facility and jail — by Ray County Prosecuting Attorney Camille Johnston, other county officials and many residents, the group chose to table the topic rather than doing away with the idea.
Water district staffer Jim Richey, Tri-County Mental Health CEO Tom Petrizzo and attendees that were content with their choice on the “land for the mental health and jail” topic and yet, chose to table the topic rather than doing away with the matter.
Over 100 Ray County residents attended the meeting and many offered public comments to Ray County Commissioners Gary Wilhite, Billy Gaines and Dave Powell on Wednesday.
Residents’ concerns lie within the sale of the property located across from the Ray County Ambulance location. Commissioners say they were wanting to purchase the land to grow county property and potentially build a new jail and/or mental health facility…
