Orrick boys repeat as district champs

One blessing Thacker received this season occurred May 4, when Orrick won the boys portion of the Class 1 District 7 meet at Holden. It gave the Bearcats their second straight boys title.
“It is so awesome to set and then reach the goals for this year,” Thacker stated Monday via text message.
The Orrick boys tallied 124 points in repeating as District 7 champs – 31 points ahead of runner-up Wellington-Napoleon.
Xavior Gaskins, Jonathon Harris, Jaxon Miller and Lucas Walker led Orrick to victory by winning an event apiece. Gaskins, a sophomore, won the 3,200-meter run in 11 minutes, 26.1 seconds. Harris, a senior, won the 110 high hurdles in 15.62. Miller, also a senior, leaped 5.97 meters to claim the long jump. Walker, a sophomore, threw 44.27 to take the javelin.
With their respective wins, the foursome secured spots at Class 1 Sectional 4 competition, slated for Saturday at Adrian. The top four finishers in each event advanced…
