Shelves at the United Methodist Church Food Pantry are stocked with $2,000 worth of new donations, thanks to the Richmond Kiwanis Club’s Go for the Groceries event. Kiwanian Randy Schreurs pulled cans of meat, vegetables and boxes of cereal off the shelves at Harps Grocery Store in Richmond to fill more than four groceries carts with non-perishable food.

To help transition fifth-graders into sixth grade, Sunrise Elementary fifthgrade teachers have come together to discuss highlights from their departmentalization at the latest R-XVI Richmond School District board meeting. In the past, each teacher had to teach all curricula; now the curriculums are divided per teacher.

To inform local adults and parents about synthetic marijuana, flavored products, edibles and more, the Ray County Coalition (RCC) teamed up with the First Baptist Church of Richmond and guest speaker Jennifer Rhoad of Smithville Community in Action.

TWO NEW OUTDOOR musical instruments are in place at Hamann Park, thanks to community support of the Richmond Kiwanis Club. Richmond Parks and Recreation Department employees installed the instruments in early November, shortly after the Kiwanis Club celebrated its 100-year anniversary.

The University of Missouri (MU) Extension selected Jessica Trussell, Field Specialist in Human Development and Family Science as its bi-weekly spotlight this week. Trussell has been with MU Extension for 15 years and she is passionate about the role she plays in empowering individuals and families through a variety of educational programs.

Unlike some seniors, Richmond’s Hunter Mitchell has his post-high school plans set when he graduates in May 2024. Mitchell plans to attend Pratt (Kan.) Community College, where he’ll also play baseball.
