It’s almost gametime for Ray County high school sports.
Football season is slated to kick off this weekend for Richmond, the Norborne Hardin-Central (NHC) co-op program and Orrick. On Friday night, NHC will host Sweet Springs and Orrick will host St. Paul Lutheran of Concordia in 8-man football. Richmond will then face New Madrid County Central Saturday afternoon in Boonville in 11-man football. In addition, opening competitions for four other Richmond sports, Hardin-Central cross country, the NHC softball co-op and Orrick volleyball are slated for next week.
Since Aug. 7, area prep athletes have been in preseason practice mode, with some programs incorporating preseason jamborees with other schools into their preparation.
