Human trafficking is often imagined as something only happening in larger areas, but Ray County law enforcement officials emphasized the reality is far closer to home than many residents realize. January is nationally recognized as Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month, with Jan.

Ray County commissioners are considering a proposal to certify the Eagleton Center as a Red Cross shelter following recent emergency power upgrades. Kenneth Kenyon with Emergency Management told commissioners the recent installation of a generator at the Eagleton Center now makes the building eligible for certification as an official Red Cross shelter.

A local rescue facility built to help the most vulnerable animals has grown from a single act of compassion into a community-supported mission focused on saving cats with nowhere else to go. Ace’s Sanctuary & Cat Rescue was founded by Teresa Jennings, who is one of the top three nominees for Best Community Volunteer in the Town and Country Leader’s Annual Local Legends Contest.

A Hardin-Central coach and educator has been nominated for recognition as one of the area’s top coaches, highlighting a career centered on student growth, faith and long-term commitment to young athletes. Andrew Watson serves as athletic director and strength and conditioning teacher at Hardin- Central and is among the top three nominees for Best Coach in the Town and Country Leader’s Annual Local Legends Contest.
