Wrestlers runners-up; tiebreaker settles tourney

LEXINGTON – A tiebreaker system stood in the Spartans’ way of winning their first varsity boys wrestling tournament this season. Richmond and Brookfield finished their championship dual 42-42 at the Tom Hayes Dual Tournament, held Dec. 11 at the Lexington high and middle schools. Brookfield took the dual and the tournament title, based on total forfeits, Trackwrestling.com stated. The Bulldogs won the 152-, 160- and 120-pound matches by forfeit. Richmond won the 225 and 285 matches by forfeit. Injuries prompted the Spartans to leave weight classes open, Richmond coach Cody Hogan said. “That’s just how it is with any kind of sport. … You have your injuries, you (have) got to stay healthy and have your full team to … win,” Hogan said. “But for what we had and the kids, they really fought hard.” Richmond won five matches by pin to Brookfield’s four.
