Spartans third in opener
KNOB NOSTER – The Spartans gave Cody Hogan a third-place finish in his first tournament as Richmond’s varsity wrestling coach.
Led by first-place finishes by senior Conner Teat and sophomore Elijah Sanders at 132 and 145 pounds, respectively, Richmond finished the Ray Stockdale Invitational Dec. 4 at Knob Noster High School with 124 points – six points behind runner-up Maysville and 24 points behind tournament champion North Callaway.
“Elijah and Conner both had big statement wins in the finals against two good competitors,” Hogan stated Monday via email.
Teat pinned Holden’s Logan Yoder in 1 minute, 43 seconds for his title. Sanders edged North Callaway’s Blake Whipple by decision, 11-9.
Overall, the Spartans claimed eight top-four finishes. Second-place finishers were Cayden Morris at 113 and senior Zane Renfro at 285. Daxton McGinnis, 106; and Addlar Wyckoff, 195, each placed third. Finishing fourth were Gabe Baker at 138 and T.J. Rush at 220.
