Season continues for Farnan, ends for girls 800 relay team
ODESSA – Sophia Farnan could finish her high school track and field career with a state medal.
Farnan, who graduated this month from Richmond, qualified for the Class 3 state meet Saturday at Jefferson City High School by placing third in the girls javelin at the Sectional 4 meet May 22 at Odessa. The top four from each event advanced.
“I’ve had a rough couple weeks throwing (the) javelin; and I don’t know, today, … I knew I had to get the job done. … I don’t know, something changed,” she said. “I threw better than I have in a long time.”
Farnan threw 9.99 meters. Unlike some athletes that day, she did not have to deal with the rain, she said.
“As soon as I got to throw (the) javelin, the rain had stopped – like, just in time,” Farnan said.
Farnan nearly qualified in the shot put, placing fifth.
“I didn’t throw as well as I usually do,” she said. “I think that, if I would’ve thrown like normal, then I would’ve made it. But it was just kind of a rough day for (the) shot put.”
