Richmond hoopsters dash off with win at Lexington
LEXINGTON – For two-plus quarters, Richmond varsity boys basketball coach Kevin Jermain and his Spartans were locked in a tight tussle with Lexington.
But then, the Spartans ripped off an 11-0 third-quarter run and turned a five-point lead into a 16-point lead. They kept the margin in double digits, finishing with a 72-50 Feb. 12 Missouri River Valley Conference East Division road win.
“The first two or three minutes of that third quarter were really important because … they were in a situation (where), … if we let them hang within three or four for four or five more minutes, then it’s going to be a dogfight. … The really good thing about that 11-0 run, I thought our defense kind of triggered it. I thought we got the game sped up and made a couple plays defensively that led to offense, and … that’s what you want to see making those runs.”
The first half spurred that second-half run, juniors Spencer Wolf and Keyshaun Elliott agreed.
