Regular season, postseason end for Richmond volleyballers after COVID layoff
ODESSA – Richmond’s return to volleyball after being sidelined by COVID-19 was brief.
After a two-week layoff, the Spartans returned to action Oct. 23 in an afternoon Missouri River Valley Conference East aDivision match against visiting Lafayette County of Higginsville, dropping the best-of-five match 3-0. On Tuesday, they played their season finale, falling to top-seeded Odessa 3-0 in the Class 3 District 14 Tournament.
“Of course, it’s really hard to quarantine for two weeks and then come right back at it,” coach Madison Endsley said. “I do think that we were starting to hit our stride two weeks prior to being quarantined. … It’s nobody’s fault or anything. I think that was kind of hard for them, but I thought that they played really … (well) tonight and I thought they had good carryover from the game on Friday.”
Endsley’s Odessa counterpart, Melanie DeMore, has not faced the challenge of a team quarantine this season.
