KEEPING THE LEGACYALIVE
Richmond continued honoring the legacy of a late coach and teacher Tuesday.
That day, the Spartans staged their annual Hoot Middleton Invitational track and field meet. Robert H. “Hoot” Middleton, whose career with the Richmond R-XVI School District included a stint as high school track coach, passed away in 1999.
Invitational results were incomplete as of this writing. Hosting the meet followed Richmond’s appearance at the Rob Hoefer Husker Invitational. The Spartans won the boys portion of the April 7 meet, hosted by Lafayette County of Higginsville, with 104 points – 22 points ahead of runner-up Holden.
Malikiah Tharp led the Spartans to victory by winning the 100- and 200-meter dashes. The junior was among three individual Richmond boys champions. Nathan Nichols won the javelin by throwing 47.6 meters. Brice Dome won the triple jump by leaping 13.28.
Richmond also got wins from its boys 400 and 800 relay teams.
