Orrick girls emphasize ‘little things’ in first-round defeat
ORRICK – The Bearcats focused on doing “little things” well during their 82-4 loss to Wellington-Napoleon on Dec. 4 to open the I-70 Conference Tournament, hosted by Orrick, varsity girls basketball coach Zach McGill said.
Orrick concentrated on such subtleties as “ball fakes, driving with the intent to … get somebody else open,” McGill, a Richmond High School alumnus, said.
“Just small things – trying to cherish the basketball, limiting our turnovers,” he said. “We did a little bit better (at those) in the second half.”
The Bearcats could have played better, post player and first-year high schooler Anela Fletcher said.
“We weren’t on our ‘A’ game today,” Fletcher said. “We definitely could’ve improved. If we (had) played like we did against Southwest, we definitely would’ve kept up with them better, but we just weren’t in the game today.”
