Lanning, Ducks reach CFP quarterfinals

Posted in:
At press time, Richmond graduate Dan Lanning remained in pursuit of a national college football title. Lanning is head coach at the University of Oregon. With Oregon’s 51-34 win Dec. 20 over visiting James Madison University, Lanning and his fellow Ducks advanced to the College Football Playoff (CFP) quarterfinals. The Ducks (12-1) were slated to face Texas Tech University (also 12-1) Thursday at Hard Rock Stadium in the Orange Bowl – one of six NCAA Division I FBS bowl games predating the CFP era that have been incorporated into the playoff format. Lanning didn’t notice “a lot of deficiencies” in the Red Raiders as the Ducks prepared for Texas Tech. “Obviously, on offense, they create a ton of explosive plays, right,” he said during a recent livestreamed press conference. “On defense, they really limit those and they attack you in every way. They’re really aggressive on special teams as well and have had really good special teams play.”
