Kincaid reaches milestone, leads H-C past Norborne
At 6:48 p.m. Monday, Ester Kincaid made a layup.
But for Kincaid, it was no ordinary layup. In making the bucket during the third quarter of Hardin-Central’s 41-33 win over visiting Norborne in varsity girls basketball, Kincaid surpassed 1,000 career points. Play was stopped with 6 minutes, 36 seconds left in the quarter to announce the milestone to a cheering, near-full gym and give the Hardin-Central senior a moment to hug Tommy Burton, her coach.
Kincaid is the first 1,000-point scorer Burton has coached, he said.
“It’s pretty special,” Burton said minutes after the Carroll-Livingston Activities Association victory.
That wasn’t the only reason it was special for Burton. Having known Kincaid most of her life and seeing her “grow up into the young lady she is” made it meaningful as well, he said.
Senior teammate Hannah Finley hugged Kincaid, too. The gesture was an in-the-moment reaction, according to Finley.
