H-C senior hurdler hoping for opportunity to defend state title
HARDIN – Senior Carly Thacker still has a chance of being a repeat state hurdles champion.
In 2019, Thacker won the Class 1 title in the girls 300-meter low hurdles. Although the coronavirus pandemic has halted spring prep sports competitions, the Missouri State High School Activities Association stated in a March 16 press release it was not calling off state championships for springs sports yet. Thus, Thacker could still represent Hardin-Central in Class 1 state competition this year.
If MSHSAA stages its spring sports championships, however, Thacker and her Hardin-Central teammates might have few or no regular-season meets to prep for state-qualifying competition. Thacker’s dad, Hardin-Central varsity boys and girls track coach Kirk Thacker, said during a March 20 phone interview that he had received an email from MSHSAA stating there would at least be district, sectional and state competitions, if it is safe to stage them by “May or early June.”
