Girls hoopsters start offseason prep
Richmond’s varsity girls basketball squad will have plenty of new faces when the 2026-27 season tips off in November, according to coach Kaylee Vantrump.
As of Monday, only four members of the 2025-26 squad had committed to return, Vantrump said after a team camp session in the high school gym. On the other hand, she’s expecting up to nine first-year high schoolers.
“Whole new group,” Vantrump said. Vantrump glimpsed some of the youngsters’ potential last week, when she hosted camp sessions and the Spartans played in a shootout at Lawson, which included some junior varsity play. She was impressed with their performance in the shootout, particularly their hustle, calling it some of the best she has seen during her coaching career.
“Once they get everything together, they’re going to have some great ballplayers,” Vantrump said.
