KANSAS CITY – The Kansas City Chiefs took a defense-oriented approach to this year’s NFL draft. Of the six players the defending Super Bowl champions took during the April 23-25 event, held virtually because of the coronavirus pandemic, four were defensive players. Mississippi State University linebacker Willie Gay Jr. was the highest defensive player taken by Kansas City. Selected in the second round, Gay was the 63rd player taken overall. Rounding out the list of defensive draft picks were fourth-rounder L’Jarius Sneed, a safety from Louisiana Tech University; fifth-rounder Michael Denna, an edge player from the University of Michigan; and seventh-rounder Thakarius “BoPete” Keyes, a cornerback from Tulane University. The Chiefs did not have a sixth-round pick. LSU running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire and TCU tackle Lucas Niang were the two offensive players taken.
