Focus, crowd propel Spartans to victory

A business-as-usual approach helped Richmond roll to a 74-54 courtwarming win over Lexington in varsity boys basketball, Spartans coach Brent Behler suggested. “They focused at practice and did what they were asked to do, and they practiced hard,” he said minutes after the Feb. 13 Missouri River Valley Conference (MRVC)-East Division romp. “We got ready to go today.” Even with all the potential distractions of courtwarming week, including the crowning of the matcourtwarming king and queen between the varsity girls and boys games, the week is “just another week, really” for ballplayers, according to Behler. “There’s just a pep assembly on Friday, and then, just some dress up days,” he said. “When you come to practice, that’s all gone.” A large turnout was helpful, according to guard Nolan Quick. “Great atmosphere to play in,” Quick said.
