’Cats seek win over Northland Christian to cement district seed
Orrick’s regular-season finale this week in varsity 8-man football is a must-win situation for the Bearcats, according to coach Kirk Thacker.
A win Friday night in Alma over Santa Fe (2-5 overall), particularly a win by at least 13 points, would help the Bearcats (1-7) clinch the fourth seed in the District 4 Tournament, Thacker explained Monday afternoon. Orrick leads Northland Christian (2-6) by .88 point for fourth in the district seeding standings, Missouri State High School Activities Association information states.
By clinching the fourth seed, the Bearcats would then get to host Northland Christian Oct. 27 in the first round of the five-team, single-elimination district tournament, Thacker also explained. It would be their first home game since Oct. 6, when they fell to Norborne Hardin-Central (NHC) 46-42. Losing to the Aggies (4-4) at home “kind of left a bad taste in our mouth,” Thacker said.
“We thought we should’ve won it and just didn’t get the job done,” he said.
