First, let’s say what this is not. It is not a call to defund the police and it is not stating Ray County does not need a secure and safe jail. It is not about failing to support officers. It is about accountability. It is about financial responsibility. It is about a poorly written sales tax proposal. It is about a lack of evaluation and discussion about what Ray County’s needs (are). What do we know for sure? A ballot proposal was voted on and approved for the August ballot by the commissioners. The proposal language was approved without regard to input from citizens that made the effort to stand before the commissioners, only to be ignored. The proposal was approved before answers to many of the questions put forth by voters could even be answered. All we have is the ballot language that was hurriedly pushed onto the ballot.
