For years, I have read in The Richmond News how Emanuel Cleaver II is bringing broadband to rural Ray County. Where is it? I haven’t seen it. It’s not available where I live, right in the heart of Ray County. There needs to be an understanding of what rural means to Ray County residents and what rural means to big-city politicians like Emanuel Cleaver. To Emanuel Cleaver, small towns constitute rural America such that, if highspeed internet is available in Richmond or Excelsior Springs, high-speed internet has been brought to rural Ray County. The folks living on farms outside of the small towns don’t constitute enough votes for a big-city politician to worry about. There also needs to be an understanding of what high-speed internet really means. I have Hughes Net satellite internet. They promote the 10-megabit-per-second (Mbps) speed as high speed.
