Dianne Mischlick is not unique as a community volunteer, as she is just one of many thoughtful people in Clay and Ray counties who give of themselves willingly, happily to help other people in various ways. There are hundreds of volunteers – assisting though churches and civic groups, and as neighbors. Bless them all. Mischlick also is not unique as a member of Quilts of Valor. The group is national. There are more than 10,000 members who get together with each other in small groups to spend dozens of hours creating quilts. She is simply one of the thousands who create and then donate quilts to veterans. But Mischlick is unique in one thing: She is the only person in Excelsior Springs who belongs formally – that is to say, she is a dues-paying member – to Quilts of Valor. Even so, she is quick to say she has friends – among them are Karen Weber, Donna Krugman and Sherri Wollard – who help her make the quilts because they want to show appreciation to veterans for military service,…
