To the Editor, There was a fire at Sunshine Lake in Ray County on Feb. 19 of this year. The fire destroyed four cabins, a fifth-wheel camper and a large boat. One of the cabins was approximately 150 years old.
The original investigation by the Richmond fire chief determined the fire started on the west end of the campground, where all of the destroyed structures sat.
I found photographs I believe show the fire started approximately 1,000 feet east along the bank of the lake. I tried numerous times through phone calls to get the fire chief and the detective assigned to the case to come look at the physical evidence. I finally waited 25 minutes one day to talk to the sheriff, who set up a meeting on March 25. Attending the meeting were the sheriff, a detective, the fire chief, a major and lieutenant with the sheriff’s department and myself. I showed them my evidence.
