When I am out in public at events or shopping, I am often asked who I am voting for or what I think of a certain candidate. My answer is always the same, “I don’t talk about politics in public.” The reason for this decision is straightforward yet crucial. I aim to avoid any possibility of my personal opinions compromising the integrity of the newspaper. If, for example, I publicly express support for ‘Mrs. Smith’ and then later report on a negative incident involving her opponent, it could create an impression of bias in favor of the candidate I personally endorse. I am deeply interested in knowing about the individuals others are supporting and the reasons behind their choices. I believe that everyone’s viewpoints are important. I admire those who engage in respectful discussions about the issues that affect us all. I’ve had the privilege of encountering many remarkable individuals from various age groups, ethnicities, backgrounds and religious beliefs that make up this community…
