Shirley Ann Schooley, 87, of Richmond passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond. Shirley was born Nov. 25, 1936, in Lafayette County, the daughter of Jewel and Mildred (Tabb) Howell. She was united in marriage to Kenneth Eugene “Kenny” Schooley of Richmond on March 11, 1955. He preceded her in death on Nov. 21, 2019.
Survivors include two daughters, Tammy (Gary) Swafford of Richmond and Anita (Randy) Didier of Gravois Mills; and five grandchildren, Christopher Aaron Kilgore, Preston Kenneth Schooley (Sydney) Kilgore, Taylor Reed Didier (Celeste Martinez), Megan Ann (Matt) Ganier and Ashlee Morgan Settles.
Other survivors include seven great-grandchildren: Hadley Claire Kilgore, Grahm Kenneth Kilgore, Cameron Leigh Kilgore, Emery Grace-Ann Ganier, Adelyn Kate Ganier, Brielle Lee Lykins and Cambri Lynn Didier.
Two step-great-grandchildren, Camden Hughes and Christian Hughes; a half-sister, Royetta Thompson; a nephew; and several nieces also survive.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Marlene Roberts.
Shirley was reared and educated in the Camden area and graduated from Richmond High School. She worked for more than 30 years as a secretary for the Richmond R-XVI School District.
Shirley was a member of the Richmond United Methodist Church. She also was a member of the Famous Bridge Babes Club. In addition to their monthly bridge games and get-togethers, they went on vacations together. They could be a little ornery.
Shirley also enjoyed playing video poker at the casino. Most of all, she loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Shirley will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either the Richmond United Methodist Church or Shirkey Hospice. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home; 507 E. Main St.-P.O. Box 190; Richmond, MO 64085.
Visitation with funeral services will be held on Monday, June 3, at United Methodist Church in Richmond, with visitation beginning at 1 p.m., followed by the services at 2. Interment will be in Richmond Memory Gardens.
