Russell Dale Strickler, 84, passed away Sunday, Jan. 15, 2023, at his home in Wellington, surrounded by his family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20, at the United Methodist Church, Wellington. Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. at the church an hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Machpelah Cemetery, Lexington.

Dale was born Dec. 28, 1938, in Camden to Russell and Margaret (Nichols) Strickler. He graduated in 1956 from Richmond High School.

Dale was drafted into the U.S. Army and served from June 1962 to June 1964. On Aug. 27, 1962, he married Sharon Crutsinger. They resided in Wellington and shared 60 years together.

He was the owner of Dale’s Grocery and Gas for 23 years. At the age of 55, he retired and spent his free time involving himself in part-time jobs, being a member of Shirkey Golf Club and the Odessa Saddle Club, and fishing with his sons and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon, of the home; two sons, Anthony (Stephanie) Strickler of Wellington and Darren (Josie) Strickler of Olathe, Kan.; eight grandchildren, Erika (Ryan) McCarthy of Stillwell, Kan., Sarah (Ben) Scharfe of Grain Valley, Nicholas Strickler of Grain Valley, Michael (Devin) Strickler of Wellington, Halie Strickler of Olathe, Kan., Andrea Strickler of Manhattan, N.Y., Alexandra Strickler of Wellington and Matthew Strickler of Wellington; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was proceeded in death by his parents; his grandson, Eric Strickler; and his granddaughter, Elissa Quijas.
