Roger Smith Elliott Sr., 77, of Richmond, Missouri, died Friday, May 15, 2020, at Ray County Memorial Hospital, Richmond.

Born on Oct. 6, 1942, in Richmond, he was the son of Earl and Eva Bell (Rogers) Elliott. He was united in marriage to Fonda J. Martin of Overland Park, Kansas, on Sept. 15, 1990; she survives of the home.

Roger leaves behind his wife, Fonda Elliott of the home; children, Kelli (Alphonso) Washington of Richmond, Roger (Alisha) Elliott Jr. of Kansas City, Missouri, and Juhree (Russell) Swofford of Shawnee, Kansas; grandchildren, Ashlynn (Gregory) Stiles of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Coleigh (Joseph) Walker of Blue Springs, Missouri, Roger Clay (Katelyn Martin) Elliott of Oak Grove, Missouri, Julie Magana of Kansas City, Matthew Magana of Raytown, Missouri, Sarah Magana of Kansas City, Landon (Callie) Schoemig of Gardner, Kansas, Haylee Swofford, Garren Washington of Richmond, and Amiya and Alexa Elliott of Kansas City; great-grandchildren, Marley, Brynlee, Ava, Jettson, Joseph and Aria; brother, William Elliott of Kansas City; sister, Betty Smith of Kansas City; brother-in-law, Hy (Wanda) Martin of Pleasanton, Kansas; mother-in-law, Leona Martin of Shawnee; special cousins, Irene Minor and Katherine Williams; special friends, Russell and Glendora Allen, Daryl and Carol Barksdale, Ervin and Delores Foster; and many other special friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Earl Elliott Jr.; and sister, Elizzbelle Elliott in infancy.

Roger was reared and educated in Richmond, where he lived his entire life. He graduated from Richmond High School in 1960. He worked for Vaughn Wollard in Richmond until he started working at Lake City in 1965 and worked there until he first retired in 1988. He then worked for ABF until he retired in 2003. He was past master of John W. Carter Lodge 180, Richmond; past patron of Rebecca Chapter 27, Richmond; honorary member of Amos Johnson Lodge 148, Kansas City; past district deputy grand master emeritus, District 3; Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Missouri and its Jurisdiction; companion, Mount Oread 6, Royal Arch Masons-Kansas City; 32nd-degree Mason-Kansas City Consistory 7; 33rd-degree illustrious peer, United Supreme Council; past potentate of Allah Temple 6-Kansas City; and a member of St. John’s CME Church in Richmond. He enjoyed DJing for 25 years, and attending Lodge and Shrine events across the country.

Visitation with funeral services will be held at Saturday, May 23, 2020. Visitation begins at 10 a.m., with services to follow at noon at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Burial will be in Richmond Memory Gardens.
