obert “Bob” William Swope, age 57, of Polo passed away Tuesday afternoon, June 27, 2023, at his home.

Robert was born Dec. 24, 1965, the son of Robert Leslie and Sharon Elaine (Graham) Swope in Olathe, Kan. He grew up in Richmond and was a 1985 graduate of Richmond High School.

Bob served in the U.S. Navy from December 1984 until his honorable discharge in December 1990.

He married Cheryl White on Oct. 31, 1992, in Richmond.

Bob worked for General Motors for more than 27 years.

He was a great father and husband, a true family man. Bob loved to talk and was friends with everyone he came in contact with. He enjoyed mowing and loved a good project, mostly planning it.

Bob was funny and could make anyone laugh. He was a practical joker.

Cheryl taught him to sew and quilt and he enjoyed it. Bob also loved to cook and try new recipes. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Robert was preceded in death by his mother, Sharon Swope; and son, Joe Osborne.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Swope of Polo; father, Robert Swope of Lawson; children, Mindy Osborne of Lathrop, and Jason Swope, Allen Swope, Olivia Swope and Tristan Swope, all of Polo; siblings, Teresa Swope of Excelsior Springs, Jerry Swope (Nicole) of West Virginia, Terry Warren (Andra) of Lathrop; sister-in-law, Linda Cooper (Mike) of Raytown; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family members.

If you would like to make a contribution, memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association in care of the funeral home.

Funeral services were held at 7 p.m. Friday, June 30, at Stith Funeral Home in Polo. The family received friends 5-7 p.m. prior to the funeral service at the funeral home. Friends also could call after 11 a.m. June 30 at the funeral home.

Military honors and private graveside service will be at Cowgill Cemetery at a later date.
