Mary Turner

The family of Mary Sue Turner is celebrating a life full of tenacity, resilience and courage after she passed in her sleep Jan. 22, 2024, at age 87. Mary Sue, just “Sue” to her friends and family, was born March 26, 1936, to Arch and Lois McKee of Festus. She enjoyed her young life, climbing trees and playing in the barn at the Plattin Road family farm, and was known for some mischievous antics (like purchasing a mail-order monkey) with her siblings, Bob McKee, Bill McKee, Doris Huskey, Betty Smith and Lynn Brust.

She met the love of her life when a charming doorto- door salesman knocked on her door with a new Singer sewing machine. Sue and Donald Franklin Turner (passed 2009) married in 1960 at the Plattin Methodist Church. Together, they lived in West Plains and Richmond, and raised two children, Elizabeth Hendrix (spouse Kevin) of Richmond and Steve Turner (spouse Kathy) of Richmond.

Priding herself on independence and profession, Sue was a longtime employee of Pittsburg Glass in Crystal City; IGA Grocery in Richmond; American Vacuum in Overland Park, Kan.; and the co-owner of a few small businesses, retiring just last year.

Grandma Sue was a feisty, spirited grandparent to Megan Crook (spouse Cory) of Kansas City, Matthew Hendrix (spouse Erin) of Chillicothe, Ethan Turner of Springfield and Morgan Hendrix of Kansas City, and a loving and playful great-grandma to Ivy and Cas Crook, and Alena and Abel Hendrix. She taught them all the best spicy words.

Sue lived life on her own terms, embracing her independence and determination. She was deeply loved and leaves behind a legacy of spunk and a life that was lived the way she wanted.
