Mary Jacqueline “Jackie” Van Hoy, 87, of Richmond, died Thursday, Oct. 29, 2020, at Ray County Memorial Hospital.

Jackie was born on June 12, 1933 in Gainesville (Ozark County) to Martha Parker Brown. She was united in marriage to Arthur “Dean” Van Hoy of Spruce on April 15, 1955. He preceded her in death on April 27, 2011.

Survivors include: her daughter, Rhonda Jane Lockwood of Richmond; five grandchildren: Arron (Brady) Prestia, James (Tabitha) Van Hoy, Mark Aaron (Bekka) Benton II, Hannah (Nate Archer) Doss, Jonathon D. Benton and Nicole Cleaveland; five great-grandchildren: Tyler (Skylar) Van Hoy, J.B. Prestia, Landon Cleaveland, Jacqueline Prestia and Arthur Henry Doss; two greatgreat-grandchildren: Jace Van Hoy and Rhett Van Hoy; and two sisters: Lena Artie Anderson and Myrtle Lou Moon.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Arthur Dean; son, John A. Van Hoy; grandson, John A. Van Hoy Jr.; granddaughter, Deana Sue; four brothers: Allen, Chester, Wayne and Elbert White; and three sisters: Alma Loftis, Hazel Pitchford and Mayme Catherine Freeman.

Jackie went to Gainesville school her first nine years and the last three at Mount Zion Bible School in Ava. After graduating, she went to Kansas City and worked at Katz in Independence as a waitress. She then worked for Sears & Roebuck for five-and-a-half years as a biller. She was married and then moved to Richmond, where she owned Van Hoy’s Restaurant for 13-plus years. Jackie loved her family and the Lord. She loved little children and taught Sunday School for many years. She enjoyed making quilts and writing.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 6, 2020, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Visitation took place from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, 2020, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Burial will be in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville.
