Mark Lynn Buchanan, 59, of Richmond, died Monday, Aug. 24, 2020, at NorthCare Hospice House, North Kansas City.

Mark was born on Nov. 22, 1960, in Independence, the son of William “Buck” and Orna Lee (Rush) Buchanan. He was united in marriage to Debra Jean Hunt of Richmond on Feb. 12, 1994. She survives of the home.

Additional survivors include a son, Bryce Buchanan of Blue Springs, and three sisters: Nan Ghisilberti of Richmond, and Debby Rush and Carla Ashinhurst, both of Lexington.

He was preceded in death by both parents and a brother, Jeff Buchanan.

Mark was reared and educated in Lexington and graduated from Lexington High School. Mark worked his whole life in the grocery industry, going from clerk to produce manager to management. He worked at Pick ‘N’ Save in Lexington, C & R Grocery Store in Richmond and John’s Super in Excelsior Springs.

Mark loved traveling, especially to Las Vegas and New Orleans, and loved the mountains of Colorado. He loved racing of all types, NASCAR, sprint car, drag racing and motorcycles. He was an easygoing person that never met a stranger. He enjoyed his friends and family, and was a forgiving person.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to NorthCare Hospice House. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home; 507 E. Main St.-P.O. Box 190; Richmond, MO 64085.

Visitation with funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2020, at Thurman Funeral Home, Richmond, with visitation beginning at 6 p.m. and services following at 7 p.m.
