Marjorie Kay “Katie” Parks, 81, of Camden passed away on Sunday, June 11, 2023, at her home. Katie was born on July 1, 1941, in Gallatin, the daughter of Virgil C. and Elinore (Ward) Curtis. She was married to Ralph Parks Jr. of Ray County on Dec. 24, 1957. He preceded her in death in May 1996. Survivors include her son, Brian (Lori) Parks of Richmond; daughter, Aimee Clark of Odessa; seven grandchildren, Dustin Parks, Addison Long, Lissa Long, Stevie Clark, Ty Clark, Jacob Clark and Harley Parks; three great-grandchildren, L’Eeanna Long, Maddy Parks and Nichole Parks; brother, Gary (Donna) Curtis of Winston; half-brother, Rex Curtis of Uniontown, Penn.; half-sister, Zelpha (Jim) Milligan of Braymer; and stepmother, Louise Curtis of Gallatin.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Troy Lynn Parks; brother, Howard Curtis; three halfbrothers, Clyde Mullikin Jr., Darrel Mullikin and Loren Curtis; sister, Rosalie Barnes; and stepfather, Clyde Mullikin.

Marjorie was reared and educated in Excelsior Springs. In addition to raising her family, she worked for the sewing factory in Excelsior Springs, Casey’s in Richmond and the school cafeteria in Richmond, and was manager for Shirley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond.

Katie was a bit of a homebody who loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She especially enjoyed playing games with the kids and could be a little competitive. She also enjoyed reading, doing jigsaw puzzles, traveling and cooking for her family.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Kidney Foundation. Memorial contributions can be dropped off or mailed in care of the family to Thurman Funeral Home; 507 E. Main St.-P.O. Box 190; Richmond, MO 64085.

Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 15, at Sunny Slope Cemetery in Richmond. Thurman Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
