Marjorie “Janet” Wollard, 87, of Hardin passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2023, at Oak Ridge Assisted Living in Richmond. Janet was born on Aug. 7, 1936, in Maryville to James Corfield and Marjorie Clair (Hackett) Ware Jr. She was united in marriage to Billy Gene Wollard of Hardin on Nov. 19, 1961. He preceded her in death on Dec. 13, 1988. Survivors include three sons, Dale (Amanda) Wollard of Norborne, Bruce (Dana) Wollard of Lee’s Summit and James (April) Wollard of Richmond; seven grandchildren, Hayden, Joe, Cloyce, LaDonna, Dawson, Amanda D. and Nevaeh; two greatgrandchildren, Huntleigh and Malachi; three step-greatgrandchildren; a brother, J.C. (Julia) Ware of Maryville; and a sister, Phyllis Jean (Tim) Danner of Oregon.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Curtis Weldon Ware; and sister, Nancy Kay Ware.

Janet was a 1954 graduate of Pickering High School. In high school, she played basketball, volleyball and baseball. Her favorite classes were reading, English and home economics.

After high school, she attended Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville and graduated in 1959 with a bachelor’s degree in education, business and English. After college, Janet began her teaching career in Rivertown, Iowa, after which, she taught at Stet High School, then Hardin-Central, where she taught for 20 years before retiring.

Janet liked to sew, quilt, paint ceramics, make jam, canning and cooking. She always enjoyed seeing her grandchildren in farm shows at the fair.

Janet was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for 68 years, Beta Tau sorority, Retired Teacher’s Association, Beta Sigma Phi and a member of the Hardin United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hardin United Methodist Church. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home; 507 E. Main St.-P.O. Box 190; Richmond, MO 64085.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023, in New Hope Cemetery north of Hardin. Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond is in charge of the arrangements.
