Marian M. Davis Rucker, 89, a resident of Kansas City, passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at North Care Hospice House in North Kansas City.

Marian was born on May 21, 1933, in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of Harry and Beatrice (Petersen) Davis. She married James “Jim” Rucker of Richmond on Feb. 24, 1953. He preceded her in death on Aug. 28, 1999.

She is survived by her son, Jim (Donna) Rucker of Kansas City; four grandchildren, Jimmie (Rachel) Rucker of Kansas City, Andrea (Jeff) Nowlin of Smyrna, Ga., Scott Bussard of Kansas City and Angie (Spence) Creasy of Nashville, Tenn. She also is survived by nine greatgrandchildren, and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Michael Wayne Rucker; and two brothers, Fred and Leonard Davis.

Marian was family-oriented and loved being a wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed playing bridge, bingo, bunco and solitaire. She was outgoing and valued all of her friendships with so many throughout the years.

Her favorite time to gather was on Sunday for family dinners, especially during the Christmas season. She wore her jerseys and watched the Chiefs and the Royals, rarely missing a game on television.

She was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, a former member of First Baptist Church of Richmond and a longtime member of The Eastern Star. Marian also was a longtime dietary manager at Shirkey Leisure Acres (now Shirkey Nursing and Rehab) in Richmond until her retirement.

The family wishes to thank a dear friend, Michele Kist; Dr. Steve Starr; and the entire staff at North Kansas City Hospital. She will be greatly missed by her family and all her friends.

Visitation and funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond, with visitation beginning at noon. Funeral services followed the visitation at 1 in the funeral home chapel. Burial followed the services in Richmond Memory Gardens, where she was placed to rest next to her husband.
