On Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2023, Marcia Ann Hiser went home. She passed peacefully into the loving arms of her Lord, Jesus Christ, with her children at her side.

Marcia was born April 15, 1943, in her grandmother’s home in Excelsior Springs. She spent her whole life in the town.

She was a 1961 graduate of Excelsior Springs High School and married Bill Stewart that same year. They had two children: Janet and Scott Stewart.

In 1977, she married George Hiser and happily gained three stepchildren: Russell Hiser, Cindy Maske and Jeff Hiser.

Marcia worked for the Excelsior Springs School District for 28 years as an administrative assistant to the superintendent. She also spent some time as an administrative assistant at Lewis Elementary, where she retired in 1998.

Marcia was an active member of the non-academic sorority Beta Sigma Phi, earning the coveted honor of Woman of the Year.

She was a faithful woman who served her Lord as a deacon and elder at Barbee Memorial Presbyterian Church, where she was a lifelong member. She also was an avid cross-stitcher and created beautiful quilt tops. She often gifted her quilts to family and friends, who still cherish them.

Marcia was preceded in death by her husband, George Hiser; grandson, Jon Davis; and stepson, Jeff Hiser.

She leaves behind her brother, Ken (Marcha) Tietjen; children, Janet Stewart and Scott (Kathy) Stewart; and stepchildren, Russ Hiser and Cindy Maske. She also is survived by her grandchildren, Kyle (Amanda) Davis, Brett (Brittany) Davis, Laura (Grant) Burch, Rashell Thornton, Brandon Hiser, Jessica (Joey) McMillin, Jeffrey Hiser, Jordan Martin and Josh Martin. In addition, she was blessed with a large extended family, full of aunts, uncles, nephews and nieces.

Marcia had 17 great-grandchildren. She was a generous, kind soul and her absence will be felt by all who knew her. She touched many lives and is a part of cherished memories that will live on in her name.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 3, at 10 a.m. and services at 11, at the Barbee Memorial Presbyterian Church in Excelsior Springs.
