Kenny Hughes
Kenneth “Kenny” Lewis Hughes, 59, of Richmond passed away Thursday, Oct. 2, 2025, at North Care Hospice House in North Kansas City. Kenny was born Aug. 16, 1966, in Richmond, the son of Norman L. and Joanne (Coates) Hughes. He was united in marriage to Christy Calovich of Merriam, Kan., on Sept. 2, 1995. She survives of the home. Additional survivors include his father, Norman Hughes of Richmond; and three daughters, Katie (Cody) Ellis of Richmond, Emily Hughes (Christian Strong) of Kentucky and Kenzie Hughes (Noah Babiak) of Higginsville. He also is survived by his four grandchildren, Paxton Ellis, Paisley Ellis, Blakley Strong and Scottie Jo Strong; and brother, Wayne Hughes of Higginsville.
He was preceded in death by his mother; paternal grandparents, Earl and Eileen Hughes; and maternal grandparents, Jay and Jewel Coates.
Kenny found his greatest joy in being a devoted husband, dad and grandfather. He loved spending time with his family and especially enjoyed FaceTiming with his grandchildren, who were the light of his life.
Known for his quick wit and sense of humor, Kenny could always bring a smile to those around him.
A skilled carpenter, he enjoyed redoing and renovating homes, always finding satisfaction in working with his hands. His greatest accomplishment was building a log home on South Point Drive.
In his free time, he liked watching the sitcom “Friends,” collecting sports memorabilia, spending time with friends and kicking up his heels at country line dances. He was an enthusiastic Kansas City Chiefs fan, though he also held a special place in his heart for the Miami Dolphins.
Kenny was never one to turn down a plate of biscuits and gravy, whether from the BP gas station or lovingly made by his wife. His playful spirit dated back to his youth, when his high school friends fondly nicknamed him “Wimpy.”
Though gone too soon, Kenny leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter and cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Kenny Hughes Memorial Fund. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home; 507 E. Main St.P.O. Box 190; Richmond, MO 64085.
