Jerry Mays

Jerry Glen Mays, 72, of Richmond died Friday, March 3, 2023, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Jerry was born on Sept. 17, 1950, in Scott County, the son of Carl Edward and Nova O’Dell (Morris) Mays. He was united in marriage to Sharon Kay Barnett of Malden on June 5, 1970. She survives of the home. Additional survivors include: his son, Joshua Daniel Mays of Kansas City; brother, Harold Edward Mays of Parma; and sister, Patricia Annette (Scott) Stratman of Parma.

He was preceded in death by his parents. Jerry was reared and educated in the area of his birth. After high school, he attended Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, Ark. Jerry’s working years were spent in the financial industry.

His faith was everything to him. He was a man of God. Jerry’s true love, besides his family, was his ministry and music. Jerry and Sharon, also known as Heart to Heart, traveled all over the country, spreading the good news of Jesus through their ministry and music. He also sang with MO’Praise Ministries.

Jerry loved classic cars, cats, dogs and everything bacon. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Jerry Mays Memorial Fund. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home; 507 E. Main St.-P.O. Box 190; Richmond, MO 64085.

Visitation with memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 18, at the Richmond Assembly of God Church, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m., with services to follow at 11. Additional visitation with memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 25, at Stokelan Drive Christian Church, Malden, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m., with services to follow at 11.
