Jean Evelyn Stonner, 88, of Richmond passed away April 5, 2023, at NorthCare Hospice House, North Kansas City. Jean was born Nov. 22, 1934, in Howard County to George M. Long Sr. and Thelma Marie (Hunker) Long. Jean married Frank Rupert Stonner Jr. of Richmond on June 19, 1955. To this union were born three children: a son, Frank Rupert Stonner III (Cheryl) of Richmond; and twin daughters, Susan Jane Karnes (Curtis) of Camden and Sally Jean Reinhardt-Stewart (Jeff Stewart) of Lincoln, Neb., all of whom survive.

In addition to her children, she is survived by six grandchildren, Aaron Stonner (Shelley), Jamie Stonner Taylor (Stewart), Sam Stonner, Preston Karnes (Tirzah), Mason Karnes, John Reinhardt (Jennifer); two stepgrandchildren, Lydia Stewart Prochaska (Trent), Molly Stewart Kuckelman (Andrew); and numerous great-, step-great and step-great-great grandchildren.

Jean also is survived by several nieces and nephews. She loved her entire family.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; a sister, Sue Marshall; a sister, Mary Jo Lee; a brother, George M. Long Jr.; and others, including a grandchild and step-grandchild.

In 1945, Jean moved to Orrick with her family and graduated in 1951 from Orrick High School. She was employed at the Bank of Orrick in Orrick and retired after 47 years of service in 1999.

In addition to membership in the Orrick Christian Church, she served as the organist for 25 years and was a member of the Ray County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. In 2001, she organized a local club of the Red Hat Society with 24 founding members and was “Queen Bee” until 2011, when health issues interfered. While she remained in the organization, the group later became the OLEOS (Old Ladies Eating Out) and participated as her health would allow. She was a member of two bridge clubs in Orrick and especially enjoyed hosting bridge, luncheons for friends, and numerous dinners and gatherings for family and friends.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Shriner’s Hospitals for Children (Attn: Office of Development, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607); or to Orrick Christian Church (c/o Thurman Funeral Home, 507 E. Main St.-P.O. Box 190, Richmond, MO 64085).

A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 8, at Southpoint Cemetery near Orrick, with Pastor Darrin Daniel officiating. Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond was in charge of the arrangements.
