Janice Pennington

Janice Colette (Bellis) Pennington, 85, of Richmond passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2023, at Oak Ridge Assisted Living Facility in Richmond. Janice was born on Dec. 30, 1937, in Camden, the daughter of Clell M. and Edith L. (McGinnis) Bellis. She was united in marriage to Larry Keith Pennington of Orrick on May 17, 1956. He preceded her in death on July 22, 2019.

Survivors include: three children, Cindy (Larry) Cohoon of Carlyle, Ill., Alan (Sharon) Pennington of La Russell and Andy Pennington (Lisa Hastings) of Richmond; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; her brother; and two sisters.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Janice was reared and educated in the area of her birth. She experienced going to school in a rural, one-room, country school for first through seventh grade at the Lillard School near Orrick. She then went on to graduate in the class of 1955 from Orrick High School.

In addition to being a housewife and homemaker, she worked outside the home as a switchboard operator, at the grain elevator in Orrick, at the bank of Orrick, for Hallmark Cards and for the state of Missouri. She loved doing genealogy and playing cards.

Visitation with funeral services will be held on Friday, June 30, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. and services following at 11. Burial will be in Southpoint Cemetery, Orrick.
