James McClellan “Jim” Coleman, 72, of Richmond passed away on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Jim was born on Aug. 11, 1951, in Excelsior Springs, the son of Keith Claude and Dorothy (Rush) Coleman. He was first united in marriage to Bonita Brady of Richmond on Feb. 24, 1973. They later divorced.

He was then united in marriage to Linda Kay Wyse of Orrick on Oct. 13, 1984. She survives of the home.

Additional survivors include his two sons, Matt (Tristin) Coleman of Orrick and James (Veronica) Coleman of Excelsior Springs; daughter, Ashley Heath of the home; 16 grandchildren, Dakota (Koren) Coleman, Jaquelyn Smith (Cody Nightingale), Cheyenne Chorny (Tyler Bridges), Sierra Coleman, Abby (Kannon) Williams, Gabriel Coleman, Andrew Coleman, Grace Coleman, Bailey Coleman, Keianna Cook, Tyson Coleman, Addlyn Dorton, Bowen Coleman, Paige Desselle, Hunter Desselle and Alexis Hedrick; and seven great-grandchildren, Tommy Chorny, Saphira Chorny, Alex Bridges, Jacob Smith, Myles Smith, Genevieve Oswald and Silas Coleman, with one on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Keith Coleman Jr. and Joe Coleman; and sister, Floy Hawkins.

Jim was reared and educated in Richmond, graduating with the class of 1970. After high school, he worked at Trail Mobile in North Kansas City from 1973 to 1981.

He then worked for Dave Rone and Bennie Tippins at the 10-13 service station. Jim did custom hay work with his dad and brother from 1981 to 1984. He was a self-employed mechanic and business owner from 1984 to 2013 in Richmond.

Jim loved John Deere tractors and anything John Deere. He liked tinkering with things in his garage and being outdoors. Jim especially enjoyed time spent with his family and friends.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either the American Heart Association or the donor’s choice. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home; 507 E. Main Street-P.O. Box 190; Richmond, MO 64085.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 29, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Rev. Bill Purcell will officiate.

Visitation was held 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 28, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Richmond Memory Gardens.
