Iris Kathleen Kallenberger, age 81, of rural Ray County passed away peacefully at 10:48 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, surrounded by her loving husband and family. She was born on Dec. 3, 1941, in Lexington to Andrew and Thelma (Dolan) Paris. Iris graduated in 1959 from Central High School. On Nov. 6, 1959, at Inner City Church, Independence, she was united in marriage to Gene Kallenberger; and this union was blessed with three children – Cris, Elaine and Daryl. They shared 63 years of love and laughter while making many memories.

Iris was employed at Banquet Foods for 14 years and S&K in Lexington for 16 years. She attended the First Baptist Church of Hardin and was a member of the Hardin American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 487.

Iris loved her cats, and she loved to sing. She was a God Squad member and enjoyed visiting area nursing home facilities to give the gift of song to the residents. Iris never met a stranger, enjoyed being where there were people and treated everyone with equal kindness.

Iris always had a greeting smile and nicely applied lipstick, and she never left the house without taking it with her. She was loved by everyone that knew and met her, and she will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her husband, Gene, of the home; a son, Cris Kallenberger and his wife Lois, of Reedville, Va.; a daughter, Elaine Burnett and her husband Randy of Wellington; a brother, Clayton Paris and his wife Pat of North Kansas City; three sisters-in-law, Lois Williams of Carrollton, Loretta Paris of Lee’s Summit and Sharon Paris of New Bloomfield; two brothers-in-law, Alvin Kallenberger and his companion Louise Shaw of Richmond, and Leroy Winfrey of Stuttgart, Ark.; three grandchildren, Taylor Burnett (Kirsten) of Blue Springs, Michael Kallenberger (Libby) of Lee’s Summit and Sawyer Kallenberger of Holt; and two great-granddaughters, Vera and Blake Kallenberger.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Alvin Paris and Larry Paris; sadly, her son, Daryl Kallenberger; two brothers-in-law, Howard Williams and Milo Kallenberger; and two sisters-in-law, Leola Winfrey and Ann Kallenberger.

A funeral service was held at 3 p.m., Sunday, April 2, at the First Baptist Church, Hardin, with Pastor Chris Cox officiating. There was a visitation for family and friends from 2 to 3 p.m. April 2 at the church. A procession followed the service and the committal was at Hardin Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Jimmy John Davidson, Sonny Blankenship, Mark McCorkendale, Albert Johnson, Hank Hilliard and Donny O’Dell.

Memorial contributions in memory of Iris are humbly suggested to Shirkey Hospice & Palliative Care or the Hardin Cemetery.
