Helen Marie (Hubbard) Manley, 103, of Richmond and formerly of Polo passed away Wednesday night, Feb. 17, 2021, at Shirkey Nursing and Rehab in Richmond.

Helen was born on Aug. 8, 1917, the daughter of Clayton and Minnie (Young) Hubbard in Lathrop. She grew up in Lathrop and Polo.

She attended Prairie Ridge Church and Polo First Baptist Church.

Helen was married to Lloyd Manley in April of 1940. To this union, one daughter was born. They later divorced. Helen worked in the cafeteria at the school in Polo for four years, then managed The Polo Grill for 12 years. Later, Helen worked for the Panther Drive In for 25 years. She was the best pie and brownie baker.

Helen was a giving person and loved to share her kitchen creations with family, friends and neighbors. Her family never knew her to complain. Helen was a strong, independent woman. She would often say, “We had a big time.”

Helen will be dearly missed.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Madeline Wormsley, Marjorie Grove, Dorothy Garrett and Lester Hubbard, and infant brother, Harold Clayton Hubbard. Survivors: her daughter, Linda (Kirk) Ellis of Hardin; grandchildren, Teresa (Troy) Banning of Richmond, Angie Quick of Hardin and Robert Warren II (Marni) Ellis of Overland Park, Kansas; great-grandchildren, Brook, Trey, Tristyn, Kennedy, Tripp and Dane; great-great-granddaughter, Harper; and sister, Mildred Adkison of Kansas City. Several nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family members also survive.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Prairie Ridge Cemetery in care of the funeral home.

Visition was from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 21, at Stith Family Funeral Home in Polo. Private family graveside services were held because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
