George Andy Moppin Jr., 87, of Richmond, died Thursday, July 2, 2020, at Riverbend Heights Health and Rehabilitation in Lexington.

George was born on Dec. 7, 1932, in Ray County, the son of George Andy and Mamie (Mershon) Moppin Sr. He was united in marriage on May 15, 1960, to Elizabeth “Liz” Blakeman of Henrietta. They were later divorced. He was united in marriage to Fern Loretta Moore of Kansas City, on March 25, 1969. George then remarried his first wife, Liz.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Moppin of the home; eight children, Georgia Ann (Ronald) Smith of Knoxville, Tennessee, Michael (Shelia) Moppin of Kansas City, Robert (Terry Etherton) Moppin of Kansas City, Amy (Donald Sr.) Thomas of Edwardsville, Kansas, Steven (Jan) Rose of North Kansas City, Sean (Sallie) Rose of Tallassee, Florida, Brian Rose of Florida, Arthur Harrell of Lexington; 19 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; one brother, Stanley Moppin; and one sister, Glenda Viles of Richmond. He was preceded in death by his parents and second wife, Fern.

George was reared and educated in Henrietta. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service.
