Emma Fern MacDonald, 94, of Richmond died Saturday, Feb. 20, 2021, at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond.

Emma was born on Nov. 6, 1926, in Ray County, the daughter of Joseph M. and Iva Earl (Wrisinger) Thompson. She was united in marriage to Robert Eugene MacDonald of Polo on Feb. 12, 1944. He preceded her in death on Dec. 26, 1991.

Survivors include: her grandson, Bobby Joe MacDonald of Ash Grove; sister, Betsy Ann Hodson of Richmond; many nieces and nephews; and Anita Hodson, St. Thomas, Virgin Islands.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Joseph Terry “Joe” MacDonald and James “Brett” MacDonald; one daughter, Sherry Hocklander; four brothers, George Jr., Joseph Clyde, Russell D. and Earl Dean Thompson; four sisters, Grace Wrisinger, Frieda VanMeter, Sally Minnick and Doris Calvert.

Emma was reared in and educated in Richmond and graduated from Richmond High School. She was a lifelong area resident. Emma worked as a social worker at Ray County Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the United Christian Presbyterian Church in Richmond.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the United Christian Presbyterian Church in Richmond. They can either be dropped by or mailed in care of the family to Thurman Funeral Home; 507 E. Main St.-P. O. Box 190; Richmond, MO 64085.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 24, at the United Christian Presbyterian Church in Richmond. Visitation was held one hour prior to services at the church. Interment was in Richmond Memory Gardens. Arrangements by Thurman Funeral Home, Richmond.
